I grew up
in a house full of antique books.
As a young
child I enjoyed pouring over Dore's illustrations from the bible.
We
had tons of Victorian books. The Pickwick Papers, beautifully illustrated,
was one of my favorites. I just love the children's books from the 20's and 30's
I
won the first of several awards at age ten. I was recognized as a prodigy at about
eleven years old and accepted into Chiounard Art School in California, as a 'special
student'.
I've had several wonderful art teachers.
One of them tried to get me to stick with ONE style of artwork. After extensive
art history study, I could not be restricted to a single style.
So,
for many years I have taken the influence of the illustrators of old -- and the
art history from many cultures -- and developed a number of very diverse expressions
of my own.
My work experience is as varied
as my art. I have worked as an illustrator for a women's magazines, new age publications,
children's books, package design, and advertising. And I have designed everything
from corporate logos to jewelry and clothing.
I
especially enjoy translating complex materials (or concepts) into teachable pictures,
such as martial arts instruction. I design book covers, logos, and icons. I also
create illustrations, commercial art, paintings, and custom graphics.
I
think I am a good communicator. I can get to the heart of what you want.
